“Umbrella Exhibition by Masaru Suzuki 2013: Textile to Carry Around” will be held from May 11th to 26th at Yoyogi Uehara CASE gallery, Tokyo.

Textile designer Masaru Suzuki handles design for original fabric brand “OTTAIPNU” and Finland brand “MARIMEKKO.” Vivid hues arranged in bold patterns distinguish his textiles.

At the collection titled “OTTAIPNU KASA COLLECTION,” Suzuki presents umbrellas, parasols, as well as sunshade umbrellas developed since 2011 in collaboration with MOONBAT. He introduces ecofriendly umbrella “ecode/ECODE,” which allows one to easily take the umbrella apart to textile, ribs and handle. The textile being interchangeable, one can enjoy selecting a textile according to one’s feeling or the weather.

In addition to eight newly introduced designs for 2013, the already presented umbrellas up until now will be displayed and sold. Also, original music created for this exhibition is planned to be released, encased in a textile package by Suzuki.

Suzuki was born in 1968 in Chiba prefecture. After graduating from the Department of Textile Design of Tama Art University, he joined Hiroshi Awatsuji Design Studio. Becoming independent in 1995, he founded his own company UNPIATTO INC., Ltd. in 2002. While handling interior textile projects in Japan and overseas, he established a fabric brand OTTAIPNU in 2005. Currently, he engages in creation mainly using printed fabric based in Japan and Finland.
