From June 25th to 30th, Paris-based, internationally active artist Samon Takahashi presents exhibit “Sora wo Aruku- IN THE SKY I AM WALKING-” at SPIRAL GARDEN in Aoyama, Tokyo.

It is the first large-scale solo exhibit that Takahashi holds in Japan. Showcasing six types of artworks that utilize light, sound, and colors, Takahashi explores the themes of “chasm that lie between science and phenomena, the contemporary human inconsistencies borne of human evolution, and the sublime beauty and possibilities that lie in a fantasy world.” Through the displays and workshops, Takahashi seeks to return to the starting point by addressing the big question: “What can art do?”

A collaborative event dubbed “Godzilla and The Phoenix” will be held on the opening day. More live performances will be organized by “OuUnPo”, a 16-member group of artists, curators and researchers from ten different countries that Takahashi takes part in as a core member. Other time-limited events are scheduled to pop-up throughout the whole SPIRAL building. Shop staffs unfamiliar to SPIRAL MARKET may make surprise appearances, the SPIRAL GARDEN may suddenly turn into a concert hall, and poetry recitals may be held at the emergency staircase where Nobuyoshi Araki’s photograph “Irogoto” (1994) is displayed.

Samon Takahashi was born in France in 1970. Becoming an assistant to Fabrice Hybert, Takahashi has worked with the contemporary art virtuoso at Venice Biennale and on other various artworks. In 1999, he held his first solo exhibit titled “#1” at Gallery 360°. Since then, Takahashi has held solo and group exhibits in Paris, Los Angeles, Bucharest, and more.
