In commemoration of the 77th anniversary of fashion magazine “Soen,” an exhibit will be held from July 3rd at Bunka Gakuen Costume Museum in Yoyogi, Tokyo.

At the exhibit, 850 issues of the magazine from the first issue to the latest will be on display. 84 works that have been awarded the Soen Prize will also be on exhibit. A talk event will be held from 1:30 pm on July 20th and Sept. 14th (capacity: 30 people, first come basis) by the magazine’s editor in chief. The exhibit explores the roles that both the magazine and award have played in the history of Japanese fashion.

Soen was first published in 1936 from Educational Foundation Bunka Gakuen. It is the longest standing fashion magazine in Japan. The Soen award was founded in 1956, in commemoration of the magazine’s 20th anniversary, and produced designers Kenzo Takada, Yohji Yamamoto, Junko Koshino and Yoshiki Hishinuma. Yusuke Takahashi, designer for Issey Miyake Men has recently been awarded with the 83rd Soen award.
