Isetan Shinjuku will line up men’s sandals designed in collaboration with TATAMI, the luxury line from 240-year old German shoes brand Birkenstock, and popular Japanese brands. The sandals will go on sale in limited numbers from July 31.

5 Japanese brands participate in the collaboration project: kolor BEACON, White Mountaineering, sacai, N.HOOLYWOOD and TAKAHIROMIYASHITATheSoloIst. Each brand designed using the standard TATAMI models: Dakar, Pillica, Rhein, Mississippi, and Themse.

Prices range from 34,650 yen to 40,950 yen. Each model is available in limited pairs of 100.

TATAMI was launched in 1990 by Alex Birkenstock. The brand name is derived from the Japanese word “tatami.” The brand seeks to reproduce the texture of tatami mats when one wears its sandals. A 4-layer footbed (sole), which is high in durability, functionality and absorbency is featured based on anatomical studies.
