On Oct 30, the iconic tartan check pattern representing Isetan has been updated to a new pattern named “MacMillan/Isetan.” In commemoration, a presentation ceremony attended by President and Representative Director Hiroshi Ohnishi of Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings, and the Japan Representative of the Scottish Development International, Stephen Baker was held.
The ceremony opened with a performance with traditional Scottish bagpipes. “Last fall, we received the ‘Best use of tartan in packaging’ from the Scottish Tartans Authority. This set us off to create a new and updated pattern. The new pattern will not only decorate our shopping bags, but also serve as an important branding tool. We want the pattern to be incorporated into the lifestyles of our customers as a fashion item,” said Mr. Ohnishi.
“The update of the tartan represents Isetan’s motivation to keep on moving forward as opposed to being content with what has already been achieved. We want to continue to work with Isetan to promote the value of the tartan,” added Mr. Baker.
The “MacMillan/Isetan” has been registered with the Scottish Register of Tartans, which manages tartans throughout the world. Items featuring the new pattern are currently being sold at Isetan Shinjuku department store.
