“Arashiyama Hanatouro in Kyoto 2013” opened on Dec 14. Lights beautifully illuminate the natural landscape of Saga-Arashiyama and the cultural and historic heritages in the area. Until Dec 23.

2,500 LED lanterns and flower arrangements adorn the promenade and the areas including bamboo forest walkways (from Nonomiya Shrine to Okochi Sanso Villa) and Togetsukyo Bridge. Also, various events such as Kotonoha Andon to stick your message onto a lantern, rickshaw tour, stamp rally and more are being held.

At the opening event held at Nakanoshima Park on Dec 14, performances were shown to express gratitude for the disaster recovery support on the typhoon in September. The performers were: the students from Kyoto City University of Arts, Arashiyama Elementary School Wadaiko (Japanese drum) Club, Saga Junior High School Wadaiko Club and more. In addition, the students from Saga Elementary School presented their essays.

On the final day, 5,000 bags of cosmos flower seeds will be handed out under the theme “Arashiyama Hanatouro Finale- Hanasakasou.”
