The art festival DOGO ONSENART 2014 will be held in Ehime prefecture this April. Hotel Horizontal has opened its doors for the pre-opening, presenting art decorated rooms from 5 different hotels by acclaimed artists- Yayoi Kusama, Nobuyoshi Araki, Fujiwo Ishimoto, Akira Minagawa and Shuntaro Tanikawa. Guests are able to reserve the rooms and stay there.
The festival is held in celebration of the 120th anniversary since the grand reconstruction of Dogo Onsen, Japan’s oldest hot spring. Organized by Jiro Hirano, approx. 600 students marched the town holding lit-up balloons. The parade along with more art events beautifully colored the area.
Hotel Horizontal is designed under the theme “The deepest dream.” One of the focal points of the Dogo Onsen Festival, the hotel project presents 10 rooms from different hotels as artworks. A 16-tatami room at the Hotel Kowakuen is adorned with Nobuyoshi Araki’s Kinbaku.
