A poster exhibit will be held at the Tokyo Daikanyama gallery “AL” to commemorate the release of “POSTERS OTOMO KATSUHIRO × GRAPHIC DESIGN” featuring posters illustrated by Katsuhiro Otomo. The event, named after the book, is set to start on Feb 28.
The book is a more or less complete compilation of all the posters Katsuhiro Otomo has been involved in the designing of, from promotion posters of “AKIRA” comics to advertisement posters of films he directed, right down to corporate and event posters for which the world-famous artist provided visual content. Also featured in the book is a three-man talk between Otomo, graphic designer Toshiaki Uesugi and collage artist Kosuke Kawamura discussing their passion towards poster design.
A number of the posters introduced in the book, mainly those using special printing techniques and consequently hard to reproduce, can be viewed at the “AL” exhibit starting on Feb 28. Posters of popular works such as “AKIRA” “MEMORIES” and “Steamboy” are interspersed with those of 1984 neo-futuristic “CANON T70” and others. Many other posters, made to actual size, can be enjoyed at the gallery where books will also be available for purchase.
