Designer Yasutoshi Ezumi of his namesake brand is the winner of the 6th DHL Designer Award. The awards ceremony was held on Mar 21, straight after the brand presented its 2014-15 AW show. Mr. Ezumi was awarded with a trophy and 500,000 yen worth of international shipping credit to ship samples and materials.

The brand was recognized for its unique design concept and high skills. It holds shops in China and the US and has the potential to further expand its business overseas.

“I’m so happy. I want to share my happiness with the people who support me. With the cash reward, I’m able to supply my products to overseas buyers without charging them shipping. I’ve had favorable feedback from Europe including Spain, so I want to continue to use the services of DHL to expand my business. I’m considering shows and exhibits overseas as the next step,” said Mr. Ezumi.

At the ceremony, there was an announcement about the start of a new award in collaboration with IMG Fashion. Named “DHL Exported,” the award was created to support young designers from around the world, and it serves as the international version of the Designer Award. The award will select four winners, who will have the opportunity to present their fashion shows at one of the fashion weeks held in New York, London, Milan or Tokyo. Contestants can apply through the official website. The deadline is Apr 2. If one of the winners opts to show at Tokyo Fashion Week, he/she will be participating in the 2015 Spring/Summer collections.

“We want many young Japanese designers to sign up for the award and be successful overseas,” added Junko Takata of DHL Japan.
