132 5. Issey Miyake, the brand designed by Issey Miyake and the team Reality Lab, welcomed Japanese architect Ryuji Nakamura to create special store displays titled “Folding Circles.” The temporary showcasing will be held from Mar 5 to Apr 1.

For the project, objet d'art imaged after 132 5. Issey Miyake’s 2015 S/S collection named “Circular,” which introduces a supersonic wave cutter to create identical circular forms and stitches based on a strategic rule to form beautiful circular clothing, is presented. When the clothing from the collection is folded, it becomes a circle, and when worn, the designs create fascinating silhouettes.

Circles, six times the size of the garments, are folded to create a string of arcs in three-dimensional forms. Nakamura’s works of art show the brilliance of how a simple shape such as a circle can produce new and surprising structures.

Mainly an architect, Ryuji Nakamura is also known for designing exhibition spaces and museum installations in addition to handling scenic design. In the past, his works have received a number of honors such as the Good Design Award and JCD Design Award.

The special store displays decorate the windows of Elttob Tep Issey Miyake Ginza and Semba stores as well as Reality Lab Issey Miyake Aoyama store.
