Japanese brand Sacai by designer Chitose Abe presents its collaboration collection with NikeLab.
Abe produced a collection of women’s sportswear based on Nike’s historical designs of running, tennis and American football sportswear. Introducing innovative fabrics and techniques, Abe revolutionized classic sports items into feminine and modern designs, which are not only beautiful, but also functional.
Nike’s timeless windrunner is dressed up with pleats and transformed into a skirt. A sweat parka has characteristics of a peplum, which appear with the movements of the wearer. The collection is designed to make the garments look stunning with each movement.
Using Nike’s iconic Tech Fleece material, Abe designed the “Tech Fleece Crew,” “Tech Fleece with Zipper,” “Tech Fleece Dress,” “Tech Fleece Crew Top with Back Zipper” and “Tech Fleece Pants.” In addition to these, colorful items such as the “Hooded Sweatshirt,” “Windrunner Skirt,” “Sports Skirt” and “Graffiti Tee” are on sale.
Nike’s Air Max shoes have a fresh new look also- as slip-ons. Using the technique of trompe-l'oeil, the sneakers appear to have wedge soles. Leather is used for the design, introducing an elastic shoe tongue with fuse technology for comfort.
“Sacai is defined by innovative materials, and functionality is just as important. Nike is a brand that possesses both functionality and innovation, and to me it’s an icon,” offered Abe.
To this Kurt Parker, vice president and creative director of Nike Sportswear, added, “It’s as the garments come to life with each movement of the wearers. At the same time, beauty and strength are expressed in the designs. This is the perfect fusion of sports and style.”
The collaboration collection is available on nike.com/nikelab and at NikeLab DSM Ginza and Sacai Aoyama. It will also be available as a pop-up at Isetan Shinjuku (1F) from Mar 25. In June, part two of the collaboration will hit stores with new colors and the updated versions of the “Windrunner Skirt,” “Graphic Nike Tank” and “Nike Dunk Lux.”
