The 2015-16 A/W "Hanae Mori Designed by Yu Amatsu" premiered at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo on Mar 20.
This is Yu Amatsu's second season designing for Hanae Mori, the woman behind the eponymous and honored haute-couture Japanese label. Amatsu showed his own collection, A Degree Fahrenheit, earlier this week.
Hanae Mori is a label all about elegance, precision, and timeless style, and Amatsu certainly expressed this in the new 2015-16 A/W pieces. A slightly longer show compared to others at Fashion Week, the runway began with beautifully simple pieces featuring subtle grays and pale blue tweed, mixes of textures and laser-cut lace.
Classic shapes and high-waisted feminine tailoring was paired with elegantly smart jackets, longline lapel coats, and candy-colored fur. Footwear was matte gray leather: simple heels and both ankle and over-the-knee boots. Well balanced with autumnal turtle necks plus cropped knits and neat boxy tops, the Hanae Mori designs pushed the envelope just a little, whilst still remaining understated and chic.
Smoothly, the graceful designs gave way to touches of pale green and frosty kaleidoscope patterns. Finally, the looks were a wash of lilac, sky blue, lime, and coral plus subtle (and not so subtle) diagonal prints; reminiscent of the way a butterfly (Hanae Mori's signature design inspiration) slowly emerges from the chrysalis.
Beautiful, effortless and wearable - but from Hanae Mori, you would expect nothing less.
