Until Aug 24, Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi department store’s windows will be decorated with ukiyo-e painter Hokusai’s works transformed under the hands of art director/graphic designer Yuni Yoshida.

With the goal of becoming a department store which proposes new cultures and enjoyment, Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi has chosen Hokusai as a symbol of Japanese culture and art. Mitsukoshi will refer to approx. 4,000 of the artist’s works to plan events throughout the year.

As for the Mitukoshi’s window displays, Yuni Yoshida has reinterpreted Hokusai’s art dating back to the Edo period with her innovative touches and attention to detail. Yoshida is known for her art direction for Tokyo Fashion Week, Hideki Noda-directed plays and the album covers of Kaela Kimura and Chara’s CDs.

An event is open on the first floor from Aug 12 to 18 for experiencing the world of Hokusai and purchasing original sketches of the Hokusai Manga.
