Ginza Mitsukoshi department store is going through its second large-scale renovation since Sept 2010, and the refurbished floors will be unveiled on Oct 14. The concept of the latest renovations is a “Trendy and Global Department Store”.
Even after the grand opening this month, a 3,300-square meter space on the 8th floor will open by the end of this year as the area specializing in duty free products. On Sept 2, an information desk was newly opened on the first basement floor as a service counter for international shoppers. In order to become a truly global department store, Ginza Mitsukoshi offers shipping services overseas, sells SIM cards that can be used in international phones, and created new rest spaces for tourists. It also increased the number of staffs that are able to speak multiple languages. The entire department store will also be set up with a Wi-Fi network environment, which will allow for the use of online interpretation/translation tools.
In addition, next February, a guest lounge for international shoppers who spend over a certain amount will open on the 13th floor. Ginza Mitsukoshi’s sales from international shoppers accounted for over 15% of the entire sales in the previous term, and are still continuing to rise, accounting for nearly 27% on average of the entire sales each month since April.
The fashion floors of Ginza Mitsukoshi will introduce styling tips that work well both in Japan and overseas, and the corners will be located near the escalators of each floor.
As part of the Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings group, Ginza Mitsukoshi will line up a variety of products including cosmetics, accessories, clothing and interior items under the motto, “This is Japan”, combined with Ginza style.
